Name of the Course: Romantic Poetry

Aim of the course the course is to familiarize the students with one of the most outstanding peroids in English poetry , the Romantic Poetry. The students will deal with a group of the most outstanding poets in the history of English literature. Students will explore the themes, techniques and styles of poets of the period and get acquainted with the similarities as well as the differences among the poets.

Course Plan:
Week 1: Romanticism: historical and literary survey
Week 2: The Pre-Romantics: Oliver Goldsmith, The Deserted Village,
William Cowper, The Task, and Robert Burns, Tam o' Shanter
Week 3-4: William Blake: Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience,
The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, The Mental Traveler.
Week 5-6: William Wordsworth. Lucy Poems: "Michael", "Ode: Intimations of Immorality", "Resolution and Independence, The Prelude, The Excursion, Surprised by Joy
Week 7-8: Samuel T. Coleridge: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner "Dejection and Ode", "Christabe!", "Frost at Midnight", Kubla Khan, The Pains of. Sleep, The Eolian Harp.
Week: 9-10: Lord Byron: "When We Two Parted", "She Walks in Beauty", "Prisoner of Chillon", Child Harold's Pilgrimage, Manfred
Week 11 : Midterm Exams
Week 12-13: P.B. Shelley: Alaster, Ode to the West Wind, To a Skylark, Prometheus Unbound, Cenci, Ozymendias
Week 14: John Keats: Ode to Grecian Urn, " La Belle Dame Sans Merci", Ode to Melancholy, Ode to a Nightingale, To Autumn,
Note: The students are required to present weekly and term papers in the course.
